''Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come." (II Thessalonians 2:1-2)
There were believers in Thessalonica in Paul's day who believed Jesus had already come and they were going through the Tribulation. Paul says to them, ''do not be confused." He lets them know that prior to the ''snatching away'' of the church in the Rapture, there will be lawlessness in the world and apostasy in the church. He points out that when Jesus does come, the restraining power of the Holy Spirit will be removed from the earth along with the church.
The Word of God plainly teaches the Spirit of God will not be in operation here on earth during the Tribulation as He is now. He simply cannot leave this world without taking the church along with Him. Satan always destroys man with sin.   Now he is restricted. When the church is taken away, the Holy Spirit, the Restrainer, will also be taken away. The Thessalonians thought they were then going through the Tribulation. Paul assured them this was not true.  We will all be taken up together and given a new body at the Rapture, and then comes the Tribulation. The Rapture is God's great ''come as you are'' party.
Will you be embarrassed to come as you are?
Perhaps the crimson blush of morning or the glitter of the sun,
Maybe the midnight's gloomy darkness or the gleaming of the moon,
Or the stillness of the twilight as it shimmers in the sky,
We are watching, we are waiting for the end that draweth nigh,
He is coming, surely coming, and His promise cannot fail,
And the scoffers shall behold Him, as before Him they shall quail,
He is coming, surely coming, and His coming we shall greet,
We have waited for His advent; we have listened for His feet.
He is coming soon!  Are you ready?
Out of the population of more than 300,000, there are only 9,000 evangelical believers in Iceland.  This country is located just off the coast of Greenland in Europe. There are certainly more than 9,000 who claim to be Christians, but they are in name only. As modem society drifts away from faith, the rates of suicides, substance abuse, and crime have all increased. Most Icelanders have had some involvement with New Age ideologies, the occult, and other such practices. Some of the more isolated areas are spiritual wastelands with almost no active Christianity at all.
Please understand that this is a strategic prayer request. Ask the Lord to arrest this spiritual slide, and awaken Icelanders to their spiritual needs. The only hope for this very frigid land and its slide away from God is for there to be an awesome spiritual awakening. It is possible this could require some kind of tragedy. We hope not but, above all, pray that God's Holy Spirit will move in a mighty way on the people of Iceland.
''It may seem dark to you but, for the Child of God, it is gloriously dark. The darkness of our age reminds us of the soon coming of the Lord Jesus Christ."
