''Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?'' (I Corinthians 6: 19)
On occasion I will sign my correspondence simply His! It is really a reminder to myself that I am not my own. A true servant of God is someone in whom the Holy Spirit has brought this realization. ''You are not your own." This reveals true spiritual maturity. The true nature of the Christian life is an actual every day fact of the deliberate giving up of one's self to another Person through a rational decision, an act of the will.
The standards and demands of Jesus Christ for a disciple are very high.  ''If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:26) Surely Jesus was not teaching that you are to hate anyone. He is saying that your love for Him and your devotion to Him makes love for the dearest people on earth to you seem like hate.
Our Lord makes His disciple His very own possession and becomes responsible for him.  The true servant's secret is truly being able to say, ''I am His and He is accomplishing His work and His purpose through me." There is no such thing as a private life for a person who is totally committed to Jesus Christ. No human being can handle that unless he is intimately identified with Jesus Christ. If you refuse this denial of self you will be of no value to God in His redemptive work in the world. You will be a hindrance and a stumbling block. It is this relationship with Him that allows us to see pain and heartbreak in a new light. Why shouldn't we experience heartbreak? Through these doorways God is opening up ways of fellowship with His Son. It is God's way of allowing us to come to grips with the pierced hand of His Son, as if to say, ''enter into fellowship with Me." If God can accomplish His purposes in this world through a broken heart, then why not thank Him for breaking yours?
This principle explains everything and eliminates such dilemmas as disappointment, presumption and   discouragement. You are not your own, you are His!
Through Gates of Splendor is a book and movie that tells the most awesome story of modem missions. It is the account of five Wheaton College graduates who went to Ecuador as missionaries among the savage Auca Indians. They were all martyred shortly after their arrival to the area where the savage tribe lived. Many thrilling stories have come from this tragedy. Their families were being interviewed by the press and asked, ''Was it not foolish for these young men to give their lives at such a young age?'' One of the sisters responded, ''He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep for that which he cannot lose."  These young men knew they were HIS!
One of the most beautiful places I have ever visited is the Cayman Islands in Latin America. Grand Cayman is not only beautiful, but very wealthy. People come from all over the world to purchase multi-million dollar homes along the beaches of Cayman.  Because of the banking system, businessmen throughout the world are able to keep laundered money in the Cayman Islands. I have discovered that it has been very easy for the people of Cayman to become at ease in Zion, and that is tragic.        On one end of the island, there is a town named Hell. They have made a big too-do about this, naming streets Satan Street, Perdition Street, etc., and selling t-shirts and memorabilia that make jokes about Hell. This shows something of the frivolous attitude toward sacred things on the island of Cayman. In the little town of Hell, there is a little but beautiful white church with a very lovely steeple. I suppose this is the First Church of Hell. That has quite a sound to it, doesn't it? The truth is, the people of Cayman need to realize that they are not just in a paradise of beauty, but God has planted them there to keep lost men and women, boys and girls out of Hell. Pray that there will be great revival in the Caymans, and pray that God's people today, throughout the world, would realize that they are a part of a blood-bought church planted by the gates of Hell.
Pray especially today for Randy Von Kanel who is leading a ministry that is touching hundreds of lives on Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and the Brac. I was there recently and was encouraged to see believers working together to bring in the harvest.
''I don't care what I wear, I don't care what I eat, I don't care where I live. I give myself to Him."
