''I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world , but be· transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:1-2)
In these verses Paul is referring back to the incredible sovereignty and grace of God set forth in Romans 11. ''Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!'' (Romans 11:33) In response to all this goodness of God we are exhorted to present our bodies as a living sacrifice.
What I must decide is whether or not I will agree with my Lord and Master that my body will indeed be His temple. Once I agree, all the rules, regulations and requirements of the law concerning the body  are summed  up for me  in simple  truth that my body is '' the temple of the Holy Spirit." Therefore  the  commitment  of my body to Christ is not to  be  a damaged or dead  sacrifice, but a living  sacrifice.
Our only reasonable service is to present this temple as a clean and holy vessel which is totally committed to God. This kind of commitment requires a transforming or renewing of our mind.
We have a tendency to forget that a person is not only committed to Jesus Christ for salvation, but he is also committed, responsible and accountable to Jesus Christ's view of God, the world of sin and the devil. This means that each person must recognize their responsibility to ''be transformed by the renewing of his mind . . .''
Is your mind still conformed to the culture or is it transformed by the truth and the Spirit of God?
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas has more than 400,000 inhabitants. The capital is Nassau, which has more than half the population. These islands are 86% urban. The population is constantly exploding because of tourism. Tourism and banking are very important here. Drug trafficking has declined through better policing.
These islands represent a great opportunity for bold Christian witness that reaches not only the people of the island, but tourists as they come and go.
The greatest need in the Bahamas is for a deeper level of commitment among God's people. Commitment is low despite the large percentage of evangelicals in the country. Few are willing to commit themselves to the Lord's work. They have been negatively influenced by Western and British Christianity. Many congregations are without adequate pastoral care. Pray for revival and for a missionary vision among  believers.
''A religion of mere emotion and sensationalism is the most terrible of all curses that can come upon any people. The absence of reality is sad enough, but the aggravation of pretense is a deadly sin."
Samuel Chadwick
