''For many are called, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:14)
What does it mean to be called of God? Is every believer called to some specific task or ministry? What does this unusual phrase in Matthew 22:14 really mean?
The call of God is not just for a select few, but for everyone who knows Him. When Isaiah responded to God's call in Isaiah 6:8, the emphasis is on Isaiah's response, not God's call. The verse simply means that few prove that they are the chosen ones.
I have a deep conviction that every child of God is called to specific ministries and given glorious open doors of opportunities; However, God does not force His will on anyone. God's call is certain - it is your response that varies.
Isaiah said, ''here am I, send me."
Samuel was sensitive to the call of God and made it clear he was ready to obey.
Saul became Paul because of his response to the call of God.
Jesus said, ''not my will, but thy will be done." Then he said, “as the Father hath sent me, so send I you.” All of our Lord's Disciples left what they were doing to follow Him. Our Lord's demands are heavy and His expectations of us are great. He tells us in Luke 14:26 that our love for the dearest people on this earth to us must be like hate compared to our love to Him. He tells us that if we cannot bear His cross and forsake all that we have we cannot be His disciples. That's what Jesus means when He says, ''many are called, but few are chosen.''
Just as Israel's response to Jehovah God allows us to call them ''His chosen people," our response to God's call upon our lives makes us the “chosen ones.” God will not force you or plead with you. When He called His disciples, it was with no pressure from the outside. He simply said, ''Follow me'' and they were, in every sense, receptive to His call. He is calling you today.  Will you say with Isaiah, ''here am I, send me.''
Is it possible that God wants you on the mission field? Maybe even in Africa?  The need has never been greater than it is today on the Dark Continent. Many believers are afraid to even consider that God may want this for them. If it is indeed His will, it is the best for you. Restricted to the will of God is like a minnow restricted to the ocean. The happiest place on planet earth for you and the safest place for your family is in the center of God's will. For many that is Africa. Pray today for the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers so urgently needed in the Dark Continent.
''God's cause is committed to men; God commits Himself to men. They do His work and carry out His plans."
