''Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27) ''The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise." (Proverbs 11:30)
There seems to be very little peace in this world. Every new generation hears of warfare and conflict from every comer of the globe. As I write this, a new global war with terrorism grips most of the world.
When we take the time to examine the lives of the people around us, we discover just as much turmoil within people as we find in the international scene.  Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace and offers to us a different kind of peace.
Do you find yourself in the storm or in the furnace right now? Are you troubled within yourself, searching frantically for real peace? Are you confused and afraid of the waves of turbulence that has entered your life? Perhaps you've left no stone unturned, and yet still have not found real peace.
We have discovered that we can change the expression on our face to hide the turbulent turmoil within our hearts. We can fake a peaceful expression while desperately seeking peace within ourselves. Have you considered looking to Jesus for that peace? It just may be that God has allowed the turbulence to come into your life to force you to look to Him. Our Lord knows that we won't trust Him until we have to, so He sees to it that we will have to. We often become troubled because we have not taken Him into account. Jesus is saying to you today, ''let not your heart be troubled."
We often want to blame God for the difficulty in our lives; however, we are the real problem. As long as we try to serve two masters, God and ourselves, there will be difficulties combined with doubt and confusion.
The peace comes along with obedience. This is not the false temporary peace that the world gives, but is the peace of Jesus, a different kind of peace. This kind of peace comes only with unconditional surrender to the Prince of Peace Himself. The road around you may be filled with confusion and turmoil, while you experience an inward peace that passes all understanding.  ''Let not your heart be troubled."
Our Bible reading today lets us know that he that wins souls is wise. The peace that our Lord brings into our lives should motivate us to win others to Him so they can know this peace. The peace of God should inspire each of us to be a missionary. That is true wisdom.
Our prayers today are for French Guiana in Latin America. This country of approximately 200,000 souls is an overseas department of France. For years, infamous as a French penal colony, there is little desire or incentive for independence. There is freedom of religion, but it is secular in outlook. The penal colony image is only now wearing off, yet the economic, moral, and spiritual effects remain. The most responsive people are the Haitians, Hmong, and Brazilians. It is among these peoples that the Assembly of God, Baptists and Brethren are growing. Pray for men and women to be called into the ministry, and for young churches to mature in understanding and vision.
“He left His purse to Judas; His body to Joseph of Arimathea; His mother to John; His clothes to the soldiers; His peace to His Disciples; His suffering to His followers; Himself as an example and as a servant; His Gospel to the world; His presence always with God's children.”
