''Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:4-7)
It is amazing that some believers seem to take great pride in their tendency to worry. I have heard Christians almost brag, ''I am just a worrier, worry seems to run in our family." They must not realize that worry is a sin. It is a sin for several reasons.
Worry is distrust in the truthfulness of God. God said ''I will meet all of your needs according to My riches in glory." Worry says, ''I don't believe that."
Worry is detrimental to the temple of God. Worry is more damaging to your mental and physical health than drugs, alcohol, obesity, or overwork.
The constant drip, drip, drip of worry will harm you physically and destroy you mentally. Worry will destroy your testimony for God. When most people around us observe that Christians worry just like the world worries, they are not at all impressed with our so-called faith. They realize, in fact, that worry and fear is indeed the opposite of faith. In our memory text, Paul gives us the formula to overcome worry and to live the victorious Christian life. This formula of faith and victory is worthy of application in your life on a daily basis.
Praise - Paul was writing from a prison cell when he said, ''rejoice in the Lord always." He implies that our rejoicing should not be just when things are going well, but always. This exhortation is so important he repeats it. ''Again I say, rejoice." Are you going through your most difficult time and your darkest day? Your response is to rejoice.
Poise - He then says, ''let your gentleness be known to all men, the Lord is at hand." The Holy Spirit is showing us that we are to move through life with our head held high, sparkle in our eye, joy on our countenance, and a spring in our step. Before men, you are to demonstrate gentleness and confidence because whatever is happening in your circumstances, the Lord is at hand.
Prayer -We are reminded to worry about nothing. Our prayer is to be filled with thanksgiving and request.  Through prayer, God will respond to your needs and equip you for what the future holds. Prayer is spiritual defiance of ''what is'' in the name of what God has promised.
Perfect Peace - God has promised that when you refuse to worry, and follow His simple formula, the result will be perfect peace flooding your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
My focus on prayer today is for Greenland in North America. The total population of this very cold place is only 56,000. The land area is 85% glacial ice cap, the world's largest island, and with the lowest population density of any country. The economy is based on fishing and mining industries.
Greenland has been Christianized but not converted. Nearly every settlement has its Lutheran Church building - but many empty of biblical theology. Pray for renewal and new life. Evangelical population is very low. It is important for us to understand the difference between a church member and a Christian, being evangelical and being evangelistic. When a church is evangelical, that speaks of what it believes; when it is evangelistic, it highlights its willingness to personally present the claims of Christ on the hearts of lost people. This nation needs to be evangelized.
''Be strong, and of good courage. Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9
