     Numbers 19
     Psalms 56-57
     Isaiah 8-9:7
     James 2
''For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder, and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
That baby in the cradle was God. This was the cradle that rocked the world. He was the infinite infant. Look at the verse again. We understand most of it, but look again. It says He is the ''Mighty God, the Everlasting Father." That baby is Mighty God. The cultists and many liberals do not like that. They do not believe what we believe about Jesus, that He is God. If He is not God in the flesh, then He is a liar and a deceiver.
Someone has written, ''If Jesus Christ is a man, and only a man, I say, then of all mankind, I will cling to Him always, but if Jesus Christ is God, and the only God, I swear I will follow Him through Heaven and Hell, the earth, the sea, the air." That sounds good, but if He is only a man, He needs to be repudiated and not followed. He is then a liar and a deceiver. Because He is who He said He was, you must do something about it. He is either liar, a lunatic, or Lord. He is either deity, deceiver, or deceived. But a close examination of the facts will prove to any thinking person that He is who He said He was - God in the flesh.  The Jehovah of the Old Testament, and the Jesus of the New Testament are one and the same.
Isaiah knew about the birth of Jesus long before it happened. All of us know that the coming of Jesus was in the mind of God even before the foundation of the world. This eternal Christ has always been. He participated in the creation of the world. Isaiah predicted a long time ago that this eternal God would confine Himself to time and space and have a human birth. Paul said, ''Without controversy, great is the mystery of Godliness." God was made a man; God was confined to a cradle. Who could understand that Jesus had a heavenly Father, yet no Heavenly mother; an earthly mother, and no earthly father?  Here was the only baby as old as His Father, and older than His mother.  Who can conceive it?
So the Word of God is boldly proclaiming that a Child has been given to us, even the Son of God. This verse is a prophecy, not only of the First Coming of Jesus, but of His Second Coming. It says, ''The government shall be upon His shoulder." He has come already, but that has not yet been fulfilled. When He comes again, we will join Him for a 1,000 year reign on planet earth and, indeed, the government will be upon His shoulder.

Now, let's ask Isaiah some questions:
''Isaiah, looking at the birth of Jesus, what would you call His name?'' I think Isaiah would respond, ''As I consider that this is God in the cradle, I would call His name WONDERFUL."
Then we would ask, ''Isaiah, when you observe His ministry among the people, and the touch on their lives that He made, what would you call His name?''  Isaiah would respond, ''I will call Him COUNSELOR." Whatever need you have today, He wants to be your Counselor, and meet that need. His kindness, tenderness,  and genuine compassion will touch your life today as the divine Counselor.
That sounds good Isaiah, but when you observe His death, what will you call Him? Isaiah responds, ''I will call Him MIGHTY GOD." Jesus died, and Isaiah saw it long before it happened. When mortal man murdered their Magnificent Maker, it was God who died on that Cross.
But that was Friday, and on Sunday, He burst from out of the granite tomb and the angel announced - ''He is not here, He is risen!'' Isaiah says, ''He is EVERLASTING FATHER!''
''But, Isaiah, He is coming back to this earth - what will you call Him then?'' ''He is the PRINCE OF PEACE."
Jesus desires to be the Prince of Peace in every heart today. That requires unconditional surrender.
The country of Paraguay in Latin America now has about 6 million souls. The great need in this country is that they have never had a true spiritual awakening. It is, of course, completely dominated by Roman Catholicism, and this has placed many in bondage to superstitious traditionalism, and a strong devotion to Mary. These practices keep many from liberty in the Lord Jesus and must be broken by prayer. Pray that God will give the Christians who have been liberated the wisdom to help their brothers and sisters in Christ be set free from legalism and bondage.
''Man is an able creature, but he has made 32,600,000 laws and hasn't yet improved on the Ten Commandments."
