Today's Bible Reading
      II Kings 21
      Hebrews 3
      Hosea 14
      Psalms 139

''For You have formed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret . . ." (Psalms 139:13-15a)

There is nothing clearer in the Word of God than God's desire for us to enjoy life - abundant life and eternal life. Jesus said, ''I am come that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly." It is also clear in the Scripture that God stands strongly against those who take life whether it is homicide, suicide, or infanticide. The God of the Bible is a pro-life God.
Some people have suggested that the Bible is not specific concerning the sanctity of life, or the abortion issue. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Bible is replete in its teaching of the sanctity of life. The message is clear; ''Thou shalt do no murder."
Consider the overwhelming size of the problem : In America alone, since 1973, and the Roe vs. Wade decision by the Supreme Court, more than 50 million babies have been aborted in the wombs of their mothers. The most dangerous place to live in America is the womb of your mother.
On several occasions, I visited the Children's Building of the Holocaust Museum in Israel. It was a simple building with tiny lights in the ceiling. The only sound that you heard was the naming of the children that Hitler killed during the Holocaust. Upon leaving the building, I learned that it takes 20 months for all the names to be read before they begin again. Hitler exterminated 6 million children during the Holocaust. It occurred to me that in America alone, this many babies are aborted every 12 months. I call this ''The American Holocaust." As long as a baby is killed before birth, it is perfectly legal in America.  What a tragedy.
Francis Schaeffer was perhaps the greatest philosopher of my generation. He said, ''If the Christian church will not stand on the abortion issue, where will it stand?''  He was exactly right. One can never be excessive in his attempt to articulate the horrors of this holocaust. The English language is inadequate to properly describe the magnitude of this problem.
The Scripture offers protection. The Bible tells us, in our memory text, when life begins. Other scriptures add strength to this conviction.  ''The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life."  (Job 33:4)
''Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; and I ordained you a prophet to the nations."  (Jeremiah 1:5)
The politicians will say, ''Well, it is ok to have an abortion when it is the result of a rape." I protest that, and have a right to do so. Our own daughter was raped and was pregnant as a result of that rape. This happens in only a small percentage of situations, but it happened to us. Now that child is 23 years old, and has a great future. Our daughter is doing well, and is free of any guilt that would have accompanied taking the life of that child. It might interest you to know that the late Gospel singer, Ethel Waters, was only one of many who were conceived as a result of rape. What a blessing her life has been to this world, and to the Kingdom of God?
Consider the obvious selfishness of the pro-abortionist. I am convinced that the arguments of the pro-abortionists are illogical, ill conceived, lacking in basic intelligence, and bordering on insanity. In this arena, and every other area of moral concern, we must be a people who are vigilant and faithful.  We can make a difference. I am only one and cannot do everything, but I am one, and 1 can do something. May God help every one of us to stand tall and strong for life, and even the life of the unborn.
The magnitude of suffering and the number of disasters afflicting many areas appears to increase by the year. The gap between rich and poor throughout the world is on the increase. Much suffering is being caused by wars, famines, natural disasters, and man's cruelty to man. Pray for those who are involved in the relief and development projects throughout the world as they seek to meet these needs.
