“The stone which the builders rejected has become the chiefcornerstone.” (Psalm 118:22)
There is a legend that when they were building the walls of the Temple, they came to a time when two walls were coming together and discovered that they did not have a cornerstone to complete the wall. The stones had been brought from the quarry already pre-cut and sized to perfection, but the stone they needed was nowhere to be found. After a long period of searching, someone discovered that the stone had rolled down a hill and was lost in the foliage, high weeds, and other debris, out of sight of the builders. When the rejected cornerstone was retrieved, it fit perfectly, and completed the wall.
The builders who rejected their Messiah, the Cornerstone of the promised Kingdom, were the spiritual leaders of the Hebrew nation. John tells us that He (the Cornerstone) came to His own and His own did not receive Him. The literal translation of that verse (John 1:11) is that Jesus came into His own things(the world He created), and His own (people) Israel, did not receive Him. When they rejected their Messiah, they rejected their King and His Kingdom. Jesus said to them, ''The Kingdom of God will be taken from you (Israel) and given to a nation (Gentiles) bearing the fruits of it (Matthew 21:43). When Christ came the first time, national Israel rejected Him. They stumbled on the Rock and became a broken, scattered nation. The Kingdom of God was taken from them and given to the Gentiles.  Largely from among the Gentile nations and the Jews, the Messiah called His Bride (the church). The earliest believers were Jewish Christians. To the true New Testament Church, Christis the ChiefCornerstone.  The New Testament church is a “HolyTemple”in the Lord (Ephesians 2: 18-22).
When the Messiah comes the second time, nationalIsraelwill be saved. “For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that hardening in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will tum away ungodliness from Jacob; for this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.” (Romans 11:25-27)
Israel will enter the Kingdom and Christ will be its Cornerstone, but to the ungodly nations, Christ will be a crushing stone. He will grind those corrupt nations to powder. Christ is the Cornerstone of the Kingdom and the Church.
Today, it is important to know that, whether Jew or Gentile, our relationship with God is based upon a personal relationship with Christ that brings us into the church, the Body of the Redeemed. It is then that we become a part of the Kingdom of God. Are you a part of His Kingdom today? If so, are you representing the King well? There are still multitudes who need to know Him and enter His Kingdom.
As you pray for these short-term workers, pray that each one of them will have a genuine calling from God that they would experience spiritual growth, would have protection from all the dangers that lurk throughout the world, and that possibly this could lead to long-term ministry after they see the need.
