“For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day” (II Timothy 1:12)
Paul's testimony was one of great assurances that what he had committed by faith to the Lord would be kept until that Day. There are six basic, fundamental, and irrefutable reasons why you can have the same assurance as the Apostle Paul about your salvation:
1.The commitmentofScripture. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3: 16) What does God give to the believer? Everlasting life! Paul repeatedly uses the expression, in Christ. We are sealed in Christ. The Holy Spirit has placed us in Christ. He has baptized us into the Body of Christ. He has engrafted the new nature of Christ in me. I am accepted in the beloved. I stand justified before Him. The blood of Jesus has been applied, so I am one with Christ. All the language of Scripture indicates that this is a permanentand eternalrelationship.
The completenessof His sacrifice. “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14)
Our confidencein His Spirit. We can depend upon God to persevere. The saints never persevere, but the Spirit will. The best title for this doctrine is the “Preservationby the Savior.”
4.Our conformationto His Son. A verse that is a blessing to so many believers is Romans 8:28 where God tells us that ''we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose'', but His purpose is given to us in verse 29. ''For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren." What is the purpose? God lives in one great present, and God has predestined that I'll be like Jesus, so how could I lose my salvation?
Our creationin the Savior. ''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." (II Corinthians 5: 17) Security is not in a place, but in a Person. Are you in Christ, or in Adam? In Christ, you are secure. Jesus even prayed for your security. ''I pray for them.  I do not pray for the world, but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours." (John 17:9) ''I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one." (John 17:15) I believe that God the Father answered the prayers of Jesus Christ. This prayer was not only for His Apostles then, but for us. ''I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word" (John 17:20)
6.The chastisementof the saint. One way I know that I belong to Him, that He loves me, and that He will keep me is that He disciplines me when I am disobedient. (Hebrews 12:5-11) This is a sure sign of Son-ship, this matter of discipline and chastisement. This correction comes, not because God does not love us, but just the opposite reason - He does love us, because we are His children.
As you continue to pray for tent maker Christians, realize that they usually go into places that are hostile to Christianity. Fellowship and pastoral care are vital ingredients in their ability to survive spiritually, and to be fruitful, but often hard to provide. Pray especially for those living in lonely, pressurized situations where every action can be carefully monitored. They desperately need our prayers today.
