''Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.'' (II Corinthians 7:1)
There are many who believe that the Christian life is simply turning from sin and receiving Christ as Savior and He does all the rest. They see sanctification as totally the work of the Holy Spirit and perceive that we have little or nothing to do with it.
The Scripture is clear, however, that we have some things to take off and some things to put on in the Christian life. We must, indeed, cleanse ourselves from all filthiness in the flesh and the spirit until both are in harmony with the nature of God. Listen carefully to God's Word. You must realize that your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, and He demands that His Temple be kept clean and pure. (I Corinthians 6: 19) Are you condoning any habit in your body, which clearly could not withstand the light of God on it.
The process of sanctification demands holy living. (Galatians 4: 19) But I must begin to transform my natural life into spiritual life by obedience to Him even in the smallest details of life. We are exhorted in Galatians 1:16 to keep ourselves clean in our daily walk with Him.
It is the will of God that my spirit and body are in harmony with the nature of God. You must ask yourself today, ''is your mind and your spirit in perfect agreement with the life of the Son of God, or have you become mentally rebellious and defiant? Are you allowing the mind of Christ to be formed in you?'' (Philippians 2:5)
Jesus never spoke of His rights to Himself, but always maintained an inner vigilance to submit His Spirit continually to His Father. We have the responsibility to keep our spirit in agreement with His Spirit. We must recognize that we have no personal rights, but because we fear God, we will seek to live lives of righteousness and holiness. That holiness will be revealed in the seriousness of your commitment to God, and your willingness to literally put God first in your life.
Sanctification is not only His work but you must concentrate as a co-laborer with Him to produce sanctification.
Focus today on the Henan Province of China. Chairman Mao's disastrous policies caused over eight million Henanese people to die of famine. Henan was declared an atheistic zone in the 1960's, but today Communist officials complain of it as ''Jesus nest'', suffering from ''Christianity fever." Praise God for the spectacular growth of the church. Revival began during the Cultural Revolution with mass conversion, miracles, and a vision for evangelizing China. Some countries report it to be largely or completely Christian today. Pray that the Enemy will not be able to stop the revival in the Henan Province and other parts of China.
