''No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." (I Corinthians 10:13)
We were driving past a donut shop and the sign advertised ''hot donuts." As my friend pulled into the drive-through, he commented, ''If there is anything I cannot stand, it's temptation." Many of us give into temptation, especially to the fat grams we don't need simply because we cannot resist that delicious food. It is true that the word ''temptation'' has come to mean something bad to us today, but we tend to use the word in the wrong way. Temptation itself is not sin; it is something we are bound to face simply by virtue of being human. All of us are tempted, but many times we are tempted unnecessarily because we have remained at an immature level in our lives and refuse to pay the price that would allow God to lift us to a higher level of spiritual maturity.  Actually, the greater your maturity in the Lord, the higher the level of the temptation.
When temptation comes to us, it will not come as something ugly and sinister. It is the nature of our flesh and the strategy of our enemy, Satan, to make the temptation seem very attractive. A person actually determines and sets the level of his own temptation because temptation will come to him in accordance to the level of his own nature. Your temptation may confuse you for a while because you really do not know whether something is right or wrong. Oftentimes, it is a short cut to what you think is a worthy goal. Temptation is not something from which we can escape; in fact, it is essentially in the well rounded life of a person. Beware of thinking that your temptation is unique to you. Temptation is the dilemma of every believer, and if you fall victim to your temptation, it means you have neglected the way of escape that the loving Father has provided for you.  Remember that God does not save us from temptation - He sustains us in the midst of it.
I Corinthians 10:31 gives us the solution to the problem of temptation. We are to do everything we do to the glory of God.  You will discover that that overcomes most temptation immediately. He has indeed made a way of escape.
Temptations and trials are in our best interest since they build our faith portfolio. You can respond in such a way to enrich or improve your life.
Today, focus your prayer on some people groups in Botswana that critically need to be reached. They are the 50,000 Bakgalagadi, Kalanga, Yeyi, Subia, Herero, and especially the San. The San, which is the largest of these groups, has given up their desert way of life due to the development of ranching, mining, and tourism. There are no longer any nomadic San. All are resettled in poverty on the fringes of towns and villages. This people group desperately needs to be reached for Christ, and some are now responding.  Pray for them.
